AVEL News! 2009-03
Submitted by webweaver on Fri, 2009-03-06 20:23.
Good news: We are in the process of getting our United Church videotapes
transferred to DVD. We will then try to secure DVDs for some of the other
resources that are not United Church produced. In the meantime, please do not
discard your VHS machine unless it is broken!
New Acquisitions:
United for Peace Campaign - 2 DVD set.
One DVD is from the original DVD of Nov. 4, 2007 Spirit Connection, launching the
campaign.
The second DVD is reflections on Land, Reconciliation, Challenging and
Transformation. United Church people and patterns from a number of areas of the
world share the context in which they work, their struggles, and the faith that
sustains them. Each theme begins with a theological reflection that can be used to
ground group discussion. 140 mins. Various Spirit Connection programmes are
noted, and we do have copies of them. I have heard good reports on this set.
Coffee comes alive - how can your purchase make a difference - DVD
This DVD takes you on an engaging adventure into the mountains of southern
Mexico to hear from the people who produce coffee. This lively and entertaining
documentary gives voice, social conditions and environmental practices of
conventional versus fair trade coffee production. 24 mins.
Jesus for the non-religious - DVD (from Living the Questions) - from the book
by the same name by John Shelby Spong. This is a 68-minute distillation of Bishop
Spong’s understanding of the Godpresence in Christ. In this lecture, Spong
explores the meaning of “Christ”, images of Messiah, how Christ has been
experienced through the ages, and how the divinity of Christ has its ultimate
expression in a fulfilled humanity.
First Light: Jesus and the Kingdom - DVD (from Living the Questions) -
featuring John Dominic Crossan and Marcus Borg, This is a 12-session DVD and
web-based study of the historical Jesus and the Kingdom of God with two of the
