| The communications network of the M & O Conference consists of people from our 5 presbyteries. The network’s mission is to circulate as best as it can, the pertinent information on the life, events and people of the Conference and for this we are always looking for better ways to communicate | Le réseau de communications du Synode Montréal & Ottawa comprend des représentants de chacun des cinq consistoires. Son but est de faire circuler le mieux possible l’information pertinente sur la vie, les événements et les gens du synode. Et pour cela, il cherche sans cesse de nouveaux moyens pour améliorer ce partage d’information. |
| New technologies for communication are always emerging. A bi-monthly internet letter is a relatively new way we are using. The Conference website, thanks to webmaster Kent Chown is one of our most important ways.
During its last meeting, the network wanted to test a new way of doing this communication with the “Web Conference” through the program “Momentum”. This is a service being tested and used by the General Council Office of The United Church of Canada. This program allows users to participate from home or office, using both an internet connection and a telephone conference call. Many types of files and photos or power point presentations may be shared. Six members in five different places (from Montreal to Ottawa) participated in this experiment under the direction of Larry Richardson. But, as we know that technology is what it is…. this meeting did not go as promised ! Half of the people got all the communication and the other half did not. It turns out that there was a mix-up in the access codes to the call and internet site. We had difficulty in connecting at two locations even after the correct information was used. In the end, we settled for the telephone conference call alone. The positive coming out of this trial is that Larry will try and understand what worked and what did not work ! We will try this event again very soon. So when we get this system to work, this system should be accessible to committees and organizations of the Conference and presbyteries. This way we will able to meet without going anywhere, without spending time and energy to do it. We will give you a follow up on this you can be sure. David Fines |
Parmi ces moyens, il y a les nouvelles technologies bien sûr. Cette lettre internet bi-mensuelle en est un. Le site internet, sous la responsabilité de notre webmaître Kent Chown, en est également un autre de grande importance.
Lors de sa dernière rencontre le Réseau des communications du Synode a voulu tester un nouveau système de « web-conférence » à travers le programme Momentum fourni par l’Église Unie du Canada. Ce programme permet de suivre, de chez soi ou de son bureau, en direct, le déroulement d’une rencontre, les interventions successives, l’échange de fichiers et de photos ou de présentations power point. Nous étions six repartis en cinq endroits différents (à Montréal et à Ottawa) pour participer à cette expérimentation sous la direction de Larry Richardson. Mais, hélas, la technologie étant ce qu’elle, cette rencontre-internet ne s’est pas déroulée comme prévu ! La communication bien fonctionné pour la moitié d’entre nous et pas fonctionné du tout pour l’autre moitié. La valse de boutons, des codes d’entrée et de clics n’y aura rien changé ! Mais bon, le positif c’est que Larry va chercher à comprendre ce qui fonctionne et ce qui ne fonctionne pas et nous prévoyons essayer de nouveau très bientôt. Ainsi, lorsque ce système sera au point, tous les groupes et organismes du synode et des consistoires en bénéficieront et pourront l’utiliser absolument gratuitement ; ce qui leur permettra de se réunir sans se déplacer, pour économie appréciée d’énergie et de temps.
