Information about our President, Louise Shaw
Hi, my name is Louise Shaw and I live with my husband Jim, on the family farm near Hallville where we raise Simmental beef cattle. We are proud parents of Rob and Katherine and four wonderful grandchildren, James, Cameron, Zachary and Laura.
I was born into a Christian family and it was from my Grandpa and Grandma Cameron that I first heard the faith-filled stories, scriptures and music which was so much a part of their daily routine. I am sure that my spiritual growth was "encouraged, cared for, and cultivated" by those two wonderful people,so many years ago.
Christian music has always been a big part of my life, and the singing of our faith is an important part of our Christian witness. I read somewhere that "singing the Lord's song is not confined to making music!"
I am a member of St.Andrew's United Church in Hallville. I am Clerk of Session, a member of the Pastoral Care Team, a member of the UCW and I sing in the church choir. I have held various offices on the Executive of Seaway Valley Presbyterial UCW since 1989. I chair the JGER Committee of the Montreal and Ottawa Conference UCW and I am presently the President of Montreal and Ottawa Conference UCW. I have been an active Licensed Lay Worship Leader for seven years and I enjoy volunteering at the House of Lazarus on Monday mornings.
A long time ago the psalmist wrote, "I sing your praises, Oh my God and I will praise your name forever and ever." I have been singing the Lord's song for many years now and with God's help, I hope to continue singing for many, many more!.Louise Shaw

MAKING ROOM FOR WOMEN AT THE ARCHIVES - Eileen Lavigne
This is a project of the Archives of The United Church of Canada - It is to encourage women to recognize their contribution to church and social history and to help ensure that this history is preserved in archives. As the Archives Chair UCW - Montreal and Ottawa Conference I will be contacting women to arrange interviews with them and collecting any items for the Archives that they may have. These could include diaries and journals, correspondence, memoirs, scrapbooks, written-out sermons, addresses, articles, personal registers, datebooks, photographs, memorabilia and audiovisual records. If you have any items that you would like to donate to the Archives, please let me know. Thank you for your assistance with this project.

CALLING ALL ARTISTS
We are going to be preparing a book to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of UCW in Montreal and Ottawa Conference. We are having a competition to see who can design the most appropriate cover. The size should be 8 1/2" x 11" - restricted to one colour. The deadline for submissions is October 1st, 2011. The title for the book will be "OUR JOURNEY TOGETHER AS UCW" 1962-2012. Please give your entries to your Presbyterial President or mail them to me directly. Eileen Lavigne The winner of the contest will receive a free copy of the book. ALSO, we would like to know if you would be willing to purchase a copy of the book at the cost of $10.00. Please let your Presbyterial President know between now and the first of October. If you have another suggestion for the book title, please let them know also.
I am endeavouring to gather as much information as I can for our book, but I need the assistance of all UCW members. If you have any stories, reports of UCW events or pictures that we can consider for use in the book please send them to me as soon as possible. Please remember that this is a book about celebrating the last 50 years of UCW in our Conference. It is not a book containing reports. A special committee has been set up to work on this book. Thanks - Eileen Lavigne
Would all units please send me a list of their members who have been presented with Life Memberships in UCW. Also, if you know of any members who were part of UCW since 1962 or before, when it was WMS, please send me their names and contact information. Thanks - Eileen Lavigne
