Is spring just around the corner?  Snow is melting, the maple sap is flowing and already green grass is appearing.  Is our United Church organizing a trip to the sugar bush?  For many families and persons newly immigrated to and settled in Canada, this certainly is a new discovery!

It is also the time to be thinking of naming delegates to the annual meeting of the Montreal and Ottawa Conference, which will be held May 28-30, 2010 at John Abbott College in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, QC.

    N'est-ce pas que le printemps est à nos portes ? La neige fond, déjà le vert du gazon apparaît et les érables coulent ! Votre Église organise-t-elle une sortie à la cabane à sucre ? Pour nombre de nouvelles familles qui ont immigré et sont venues s'installer chez nous, ce sera certainement une découverte.

    C'est aussi le temps de penser à nommer vos délégué-es à l'Assemblée annuelle du Synode qui aura lieu cette année les 28, 29 et 30 mai au Collège John-Abbott à Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue.

You may register on-line at the conference website:  www.montrealandottawaconference.ca/site  by clicking on the AGM 2010 menu, then E-Registration and following the self-guided registration form.  On the same site, you may choose to look at photos of previous events of the conference.  If the electronic world is not for you, paper registration forms should be available at your church.  If you need further information, contact the conference registrar, Jim Watchorn at 613-224-4075.

Children of attendees are welcome at conference.  A well experienced team is in place with a children's program throughout the weekend.  If you need information about this program, contact Amy Cunningham or the registrar.

We are also planning a Youth (ages 13-17) program at conference led by Andrew Johnson  and a program for young adults ages 18-25 coordinated by Ryan Fea

We welcome to her first annual meeting, the new conference office administrator (Montreal), Stéphanie Côté.

The business of the annual meeting includes receiving reports and learning of the important work of its committees and networks; some discussion about future direction of the United Church facing significant budget restrictions; installation of a new president of conference and on Saturday evening the celebration of ministries service for new ministry personnel, as well as honouring those recently deceased and celebrating our newly retired personnel.

The theme of the annual meeting is Living in Right Relationships - Vivre des relations justes - Non kwe shon ha  which will be a time for reflection, reconciliation and healing as appropriate.  Emphasis will be on the relationship with people of the First Nations. 

Theme speakers will include:  Rev. Maggie McLeod, Coordinator Aboriginal Ministries Circle of the United Church; Jeff Copernace from the Ministry of Aborinal Affairs, government of Ontario, and Francine LeMay, the sister of Corporal Marcel LeMay who was killed in the 1990 Oka crisis.

So, consider registering for the annual meeting and benefiting by attending your choice of one or two of the approximately 15 workshops that will be held, some in English, some French, and some bilingually.

N'hésitez pas à venir avec vos enfants. Il y aura une équipe en place menée par pour s'occuper d'eux durant toute la fin de semaine. La personne à contacter est Amy Cunningham .

Il y a aussi une inscription et un programme spécial pour les jeunes de 13 à 17 ans de même que pour les jeunes adultes (de 18 à 25). Le responsable du premier groupe est Andrew Johnson  ; Ryan Fea coordonnera le deuxième.

Nous en profiterons aussi pour souhaiter la bienvenue à notre nouvelle adjointe administrative aux bureaux de Montréal Stéphanie Côté.

L'Assemblée annuelle qui est l'instance décisionnelle souveraine du synode reçoit et discute des rapports des divers comités qui s'occupent de son bon fonctionnement. C'est aussi l'occasion de discuter des grandes orientations que nous voulons lui faire prendre surtout en ces temps d'importantes réductions budgétaires. L'Assemblée annuelle installe aussi son nouveau président et durant la Célébration des ministères procède à la consécration des candidat-es pasteur-es.

Le thème de cette année est : Living in Right Relationships - Vivre des relations justes - Non kwe shon ha, qui nous fera réfléchir sur les lieux où la réconciliation et le rapprochement sont nécessaires. Et l'accent sera mis tout particulièrement en ce qui a trait aux relations avec les peuples des Premières Nations. Les trois orateurs invités sont : la pasteure Maggie MacLeod, coordinatrice du cercle des ministères autochtones de l'Église unie ; Jeff Copernance, du Ministère des Affaires autochtones du Gouvernement de l'Ontario et Francine LeMay, la sœur du caporal Marcel LeMay tué durant la crise d'Oka de 1990.

Donc, pensez déjà à vous inscrire ; et profitez-en à choisir l'un ou l'autre des quinze  ateliers qui sont offerts en anglais, en français ou encore bilingues.
